Trinidad, one of the most important tourist destinations in Cuba. The city is a jewel of the colonial architecture. It was founded in 1514 and declared Cultural Heritage Site by the UNESCO in 1988.
The history and the culture aren’t the only tourist attractions of Trinidad. You will also have the option of exploring the mountains of the Escambray, to swim in the beach and to admire the beauty of the bottom of the sea. The lovers of the nautical sports will be able to have a good time in the Marina Marlin that is located to 15 km of the city. Diving, fishing, safaris, sunset, among others, are the options that you will find.
Approximately 20 kms away is Topes de Collantes with the captivating greenness of the mountains and its natural mildness which favors ecological tourism as well as health tourism in a refreshing environment. It stands out for the riches of flora and fauna, with a high level of endemism; attributes that allowed to create the Great Natural Park Topes de Collantes. Caves bored through on its almost vertical faults, open valleys with underground drains, narrow rivers of fast waters, beautiful waterfalls and falls as that of Caburní, National Monument magnify the attractions of this area. Flowers in Topes de Collantes all the year long are guaranteed by more than one hundred ornamental plants. A variety of ferns, medicinal plants, wild orchids and butterfly flowers complement the beautiful environment. You are welcome to visit several natural parks as El Cubano, Guanayara and Codina. If you want to taste a genuine Cuban coffee you may visit the Museum House of Coffee.
10 kms away is located the Valle de los Ingenios (Valley of Sugar Mills) declared World Heritage by UNESCO, which keeps traces of the lives of the African slaves, among which Manaca- Iznaga Tower stands out. This last holds the title of National Monument, lifted up more than 40 meters high. From that point you can overlook the landscape of the valley, today a museum in which more than 70 archeological sites are located: ruins of factories, elements of industrial machinery and useful objects. Houses and storages of landowners among others are part of this heritage.
Among other values geological formations of the soil can be identified which favor obtaining grey-yellow mud of excellent quality. It has allowed to pass on from generation to generation the art of producing by traditional methods beautiful pieces of dishes, bottles, Creole and French tiles as well as other ornamental varieties for household use.
In the historical center of the city you can have a view of the Major Parochial Church and the several museums which tell about our history, culture and traditions. People walk and enjoy the fresh air of the night at the squares and small squares or go to local night clubs such as La Casa de la Música, La Casa de la Trova and the Ruins of Brunet Theater. At Las Cuevas Hotel there is Carlos de Ayala Discotheque, only of its type in the country for it is a natural cave located 14 meters under the ground.
